Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair

I couldn’t resist taking a walk down to the Exhibition Centre and having a peak into what’s happening in the quilting world, so here is my wrap-up of Australia’s #1 Craft and Quilt Fair. Very organised yarns, Creative and artistic hobbyists and professionals and lots of drool-worthy quilts and fabrics!

What: Craft & Quilt Fair – Craft Supplies, Demonstrations & Art Exhibitions

When: July 27th-30th 2017

Where: Melbourne Exhibition Centre, South Wharf

Info & Tickets:

Overall, the show is more focused around patchwork and quilting with minimal paper craft or other craft hobbies. There is a large focus on stalls with unique or new products for the quilters and sewers. There are opportunities to book into product workshops and demonstrations from professionals in the industry and international guest artists. I unfortunately looked into attending too late to be able to attend any of the workshops, but they did look like fun!

If you are thinking of going and would like to participate in the classes the show has to offer, make sure you look up the schedule at least a month in advance and book your place.

The Fair is Best For:

Quilting and Patchwork Supplies

New Quilting Products

Some Card-Making Stalls + New Stamping Products

Creative Textile Art + Quilting Ideas

Fabric Dying + Sewing based ‘Make and Takes’

Seeing the amazing work in the quilt gallery was worth the trip! There were some beautifully intricate quilts on display from artists all around Australia, competing for various prizes, judged by a panel of quilting experts. Inside the gallery space was the display of quilts for the 2017 AQC Challenge, with the theme this year being ‘Made in Australia: Flora & Fauna’, each artist submitting their interpretation of the brief. I couldn’t believe how detailed some of the embroidery and needlework was on these textile art pieces, not to mention the accuracy of their machine stitching, panel cutting and design composition!

See some of my favourite entries below with artist credits..

The detail in those quilts amazes me! If you want to see more of the quilts that are part of the Australian Quilting Challenge, Check out the gallery on their website here
